Android & iPhone install steps

Android: Open this page in Chrome. Tap the button above, or use Chrome’s menu → Install app / Add to Home screen.

iPhone / iPad: Open this page in Safari. Tap Share → Add to Home Screen. Keep Open as Web App enabled if shown, then tap Add.

Launch the SOLAR64 icon to play. You still need your own two ROM files. An internet connection is needed to load the game and join multiplayer.

Bring your ROMs. Hit the road.

Select your own USA ROMs once. They're read on your device and never uploaded.

What is this ROM? Which version do I need?

A ROM is a file containing the original game data from a Nintendo 64 cartridge. SOLAR64 reads Mario Kart 64 for Nintendo 64, USA release for its tracks, items, characters, music, and sounds.

Choose your own cartridge dump, usually named Mario Kart 64 (USA).z64 or mk64.z64. The supported file is 12 MiB (12,582,912 bytes). European, Japanese, modified, and later revisions with different game data are not supported by this build.

.z64, .v64, and .n64 are different byte orders of an N64 ROM; SOLAR64 converts them automatically. Extract a .zip or .7z archive before choosing the ROM. Renaming an unrelated file does not convert it.

The SHA-1 of the supported ROM, after byte-order conversion, is 579c48e211ae952530ffc8738709f078d5dd215e. The game verifies the data, not the filename.

If you already play the desktop version, look in its roms/ folder for mk64.z64. On a phone, save the file in Downloads or Files, then tap this picker to select it.

What is this ROM? Which version do I need?

SOLAR64 reads Cruis’n Exotica for Nintendo 64, USA release for all 12 original courses, car models and textures. This is the Nintendo 64 game, not an arcade ROM or Cruis’n USA, Cruis’n World, or Cruis’n Blast.

Choose your own cartridge dump, usually named Cruisn Exotica (USA).z64 or cruisn.z64. The supported file is 16 MiB (16,777,216 bytes). Other regions and modified game data are not supported by this build.

Accepted formats are .z64, .v64, and .n64; byte order is converted automatically. Extract compressed archives first. Both ROMs are required, even when you pick one of SOLAR64’s custom cars or tracks.

The SHA-1 after byte-order conversion is 428f53a060103fd88ebfbdcc032a99caea901e17. A different filename is fine if the underlying ROM matches.

For an existing desktop setup, choose roms/cruisn.z64. On mobile, use the Downloads or Files picker. Your files are read locally, never uploaded or shared with other racers. “Remember” stores them in this browser on this device; clearing site data removes that saved copy.

Optional Sonic racer · local character import

Choose your own extracted sonic.bin.z to add Sonic’s original model, idle/run animations and original sound effects/English reactions. It stays on this device and is never uploaded. This is optional; the two N64 ROMs above are still required.

The desktop importer currently supports the existing European Dreamcast BIN/CUE revision of Sonic Adventure. Use its generated local-run/assets/sonic/sonic.bin.z; do not select a Dreamcast disc image here. Regenerate an older import and choose the new file to add sound. Other players need their own local character data to see this model.

Optional Shadow racer · local character import

Choose your extracted shadow.bin.z to add Shadow’s original Sonic Adventure 2 model, black/red textures, stand and skating animations, jump-ball form, and original sound effects/English reactions. This optional file stays on your device and is never uploaded.

The desktop importer reads the European Dreamcast BIN/CUE data track of Sonic Adventure 2 and creates local-run/assets/shadow/shadow.bin.z. Regenerate and reselect an older model-only import to add audio. Choose that extracted file here. Other players need their own local import to see Shadow’s model.

Optional Devil Jin racer · local character import

Choose your extracted deviljin.bin.z to add Devil Jin’s original Tekken 5 model, wings, horns, textures, idle stance and running animation. This optional file stays on your device and is never uploaded.

The desktop importer supports Tekken 5 (USA), SLUS-21059, as a raw ISO and creates local-run/assets/deviljin/deviljin.bin.z. Select that extracted file here, rather than the ISO. He races on foot with normal items and controls. Tekken voice audio is not included. Other players need their own import to see his original model.

Optional Flash racer · local character import

Choose your private flash.bin.z to race as The Flash with the Justice League/Injustice 2 mod’s red suit and an authored running cycle. This file stays on your device and is never uploaded.

The desktop importer converts the FlashJL.ydd/ytd model folder using python3 tools/import-racer.py flash. Select the resulting local-run/assets/flash/flash.bin.z here. The mod contains no animation clips or audio; his running cycle is authored for SOLAR64 and his voice uses the game’s fallback. Other players need their own import to see his model. No mod data is included in downloads.
